E3D High Flow Obxidian: the test
The E3D High Flow Obxidian printing head is the fruit of collaboration between E3D and Bambu Lab.

This new print head is designed to provide better performance than the original print head of 3D Bambu Lab X1 and P1 printers.

In this test, we will compare the two printing heads in detail.

Measure real performance
The main difference between the two printing heads is their volumetric speed.
The E3D High Flow Obxidian printing head is capable of printing at a speed of 30 mm³/s, 60 % more than the original print head, it’s time to check that!
This allows it to print items faster and reduce printing time.
For this we will carry out a maximum flow test;To make the comparison we will use a volume test model.

Volume test
The test is carried out with a 0.4mm nozzle, the tower increases the perimeter printing speed by 14 mm every 1 mm high Z, causing an increase of 1 mm3 of flow from 11 mm3 for the first 1mm.
The maximum flow rate in the filament settings is set to 50mm3/s
Now it’s time to launch the impression, in a 1st step with the Bambu Lab nozzle then with the E3D nozzle.
So we will have to stop the impression when it goes in peanut!
For this test I use ESUN PLA+ white filament.
The value of the volumetric flow in MM3 is: mm + 10 corresponds to your maximum volumetric flow.
Measurement of the official Bambu Lab hotel
Test result: 33mm³/s
Print quality
The two printing heads produce high quality impressions.
However, the E3D High Flow Obxidian print head offers better precision and better surface finish.
This is due to E3D High Flow technology which allows better control of the filament flow.
Adjust the slightly lower flow, about 10 % in the settings of your filament for more security.
Ease of use
The two print heads are easy to install and use.
The E3D High Flow Obxidian printing head is compatible with the original firmware of 3D Bambu Lab printers.
Advantages and defects
The E3D High Flow Obxidian printing head is an excellent upgrade for 3D Bambu Lab X1 and P1 printers.
It offers better performance.
Advantages of the E3D High Flow Obxidian print head
Higher volumetric flow
Reduced printing time
Better finish of surfaces (during tests)
Increased robustness
Disadvantages of the E3D High Flow Obxidian printing head
More expensive than the original print head
How to use your Hutened E3D in Bambu Studio?
Simply adjust the maximum volumetric speed to around 30 mm³/s
Conclusion
If you are looking for a better performance and better resistance of the Hotend for your 3D Bambu Lab X1 or P1 printer, we recommend the E3D High Flow Obxidian print head.
Who is this hotel for?
Mainly to all those who need to optimize their machines (companies) and to all enthusiasts who wish to make the most of their Bambu Lab printers.
Obviously the Obxidian coating allows better durability of the hotel.
Why this price difference?
Bambu Lab will charge a certain amount of license fees for the hotel.
Half of the license fees will be donated to the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation.
The other half of the sum will be donated to a foundation that supports emerging talents in 3D printing of developing countries, such as model makers and small local businesses.
Obviously E3D is a for -lucrative company and it is necessary to amortize R&D.
